We replace batteries in phones, tablets and laptops at all five Talk N Fix Wireless stores. Most of the time the tell is not that the device dies - it is that it dies at the wrong moment, with charge still showing. The diagnostic is free and includes an actual battery health reading, because not every battery complaint turns out to be the battery.
What a failing battery looks like, and how to tell
- Full at breakfast, flat by lunch, with no change in how you use it
- It shuts down suddenly at 20% or 30%, then shows charge again once plugged in
- It runs hot while charging, or warm when you are barely touching it
- The back panel or the screen is lifting away from the frame
- It dies quickly in cold weather and recovers indoors
- It has to stay plugged in to stay switched on
- It charges to 100% and then falls away far faster than it used to
A screen or back panel that is lifting away from the frame means the battery is swelling. Stop charging it, do not press it back down, and bring it in - that one is not a wait-and-see.

We read the battery's actual condition rather than guessing from how it behaves. This is the step that catches the cases where the battery is fine and something else is draining it.

Stock check
We tell you at this point whether your battery is on the shelf or has to be ordered, because that is what decides whether you wait or come back.
The replacement
The old cell comes out, the new one goes in, and the adhesive and seals are replaced rather than reused.
Charge test
We charge and discharge the device before handing it back, so you are not finding out at home.
Handover
You see it working before you pay, and the warranty starts that day.
How long a battery replacement takes
iPhone, Samsung and iPad batteries are stocked, so those are wait-in-store repairs.
Laptop batteries are the one place worth a word of warning. There are far too many brands and models to carry them all - HP, LG, Samsung, MacBook and the rest - so we hold some and not others. Call ahead with the model and we will check before you travel.
The rule is the same across everything we repair: common devices and common parts are same-day, usually 30 to 45 minutes while you wait. Rarer devices and less common parts are ordered, which means 24 hours or more.

What makes the price go up or down
We do not publish a fixed price for this repair, because the price depends on what we find once the device is open.
You get a written quote after the free diagnostic, and nothing is started until you approve it. If something beyond the original fault turns up during the repair, we stop, tell you what we have found, and quote again before we go any further.

Is a swollen battery dangerous?
Treat it as urgent. Stop charging the device, do not press the screen or back panel down, do not pierce it, and bring it in. A swelling cell will keep swelling.
Will replacing the battery erase anything?
No. A battery replacement does not touch your storage, and we do not go through your device.
How do I know it is the battery and not the charging port?
Often you cannot tell from the outside, which is why the diagnostic is free. A port fault usually shows up as trouble getting charge in; a battery fault shows up as trouble holding it.
Do you replace laptop batteries?
Yes, Mac and PC. Laptop batteries are ordered per repair rather than stocked, so allow 24 hours or more and call ahead with the model.
Can you replace a tablet battery?
Yes. iPad batteries are stocked, so an iPad is usually a same-day job you can wait for. Other tablet makes are ordered per repair, so plan for 24 hours or more on those.
Do I need an appointment?
No. Walk-ins are welcome at all five stores.
