Charging-port repair in North Jersey

Free diagnosticWalk-ins welcome5 locations

We repair charging ports in phones, tablets and laptops at all five Talk N Fix Wireless stores. Before we quote for anything we check the cable, the charger and the inside of the port itself - a meaningful share of ports that look dead are simply packed with pocket lint, and that is not a repair you should be paying for.

What a failing charging port looks like, and how to tell

  • You have to hold the cable at an angle, or prop it, to make it charge
  • The cable falls out, or sits loose where it used to click in
  • It charges in bursts - starting and stopping while nothing moves
  • It charges far more slowly than it used to
  • It only works with one particular cable and no others
  • Nothing happens at all when you plug it in
  • You can see lint or grit packed into the opening, or the pins look bent

Try a different cable and a different plug socket before you assume the port has failed. If another cable fixes it, you needed a cable, not a repair - and we would rather tell you that than sell you a port.

Devices we repair charging ports in

Phones, tablets and laptops. Not phones only, and not one brand only.

  • iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, Google Pixel and other phones
  • iPad and other tablets
  • Laptops, Mac and PC
  • Lightning, USB-C and micro-USB ports

The Process

Step by step

1

Free diagnostic

We test your device with a known-good cable and charger first. This is free, it takes a minute, and it rules out the cheapest explanation before you spend anything.

2

Port inspection and cleaning

We look inside the port under magnification. Compacted lint is one of the most common causes of a port that will not hold a cable, and clearing it is often the whole job.

3

Written quote, if a repair is needed

If the port itself has failed, you get a price for your model before anything is opened, and you approve it first.

4

Stock check

We tell you whether the port assembly for your device is on the shelf or has to be ordered, because that decides your timing.

5

The repair

The port assembly is replaced. On some devices the port is soldered directly to the mainboard rather than sitting on its own flex cable - that is routine work here. Most of our technicians solder, and every one of our stores does this job.

6

Charge test

We test charging with more than one cable before handing it back, and confirm data transfer still works where the port carries it.

How long a charging-port repair takes

iPhone and Samsung charging ports are stocked, so those are wait-in-store repairs.

Debris packed into the port is often the whole fault, and clearing it needs no part at all - that one is done on the spot.

The rule is the same across everything we repair: common devices and common parts are same-day, usually 30 to 45 minutes while you wait. Rarer devices and less common parts are ordered, which means 24 hours or more.

Call your nearest store with your model before you travel and we will tell you which of the two you are.

Warranty

30-day warranty as standard on every repair and sale. 6-month and 1-year warranty options available.

What makes the price go up or down

$55 - $149

That is the standard price for the repair itself, and the final price is confirmed once we have looked at the device.

What moves it is other damage found during the repair. If we find something beyond the original fault, we tell you and quote again before we continue. You are never charged for work you have not agreed to.

For a figure on your exact model, ask the chat on this site. If it does not have your model, call your nearest store.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the part OEM, refurbished or aftermarket?

OEM-grade quality parts. We offer both OEM and aftermarket, so you choose based on what you want to pay.

Will water resistance be affected?

Yes. Once a phone has been opened it is no longer water resistant, on any repair at any shop. Anyone telling you otherwise is not being straight with you.

What does the warranty cover?

30-day warranty as standard on every repair and sale. 6-month and 1-year warranty options available.

Will there be a written receipt with the IMEI?

Yes. Every receipt carries the IMEI, or at least the last four digits, so your phone matches the repair.

Is data backed up or protected?

We do not back up your data, so back it up yourself before coming in. No data is corrupted by a repair.

Could it just be the cable?

Very often, yes. We test that first and it costs you nothing. Cables fail far more often than ports do, and they fail gradually, which is why the fault looks intermittent.

Can you clean the port instead of replacing it?

Where compacted lint is the cause, yes, and that is frequently the whole repair. We check for it before quoting for a part.

Why does my phone only charge at a certain angle?

Usually because either debris is holding the cable off the pins, or the port has been pushed out of alignment. Both are worth looking at sooner rather than later - forcing a cable into a loose port is what turns a small job into a big one.

My port is soldered to the board. Does that limit where I can go?

No. Soldering a charging port to a mainboard is routine work for us - most of our technicians do it, and all five stores handle it on site.

What about deeper board-level faults?

Ferry Street and Passaic Street have micro-soldering technicians in house for the harder work: IC repair, no image, no display, and water-damage recovery. The other three stores take the job in and send it to one of those two. Every store accepts every repair, so you do not need to work out which one to visit - bring it to whichever is nearest.

Do you repair USB-C and Lightning ports?

Yes, along with micro-USB, across phones, tablets and laptops.

Do I need an appointment?

No. Walk-ins are welcome at all five stores, and the cable check is free whether or not you go ahead.
